A lot of stuff goes on in both the UI and the UX, as the above picture also depicts, UX can be said to be the skeleton while UI is said to be the body, built on that skeleton.

Taking a brief view, we can say that, the UX has all the backend stuff, like the architecture of the website, and the wireframing(which means defining what element will be placed where), whereas the UI on the other hand, defines how a website will appear on the page. The font that will be used, the color palette, the placement of the tools, the photos, and the headings.

User Interface and User Experience are often misunderstood to be the same. While there does exist some similarity between the two and that's why they are mistaken, let's take a look at them to clear the confusion.

USER INTERFACE (UI):

By the word interface, we can assume it would be how it will be seen on the screen. what features like buttons, dropdown, and scroll-down options. Now all of these features are available to the user while surfing a particular website is what the user interface is. it's designing a visually appealing website that serves the purpose and also attracts the users more from its simple and smooth functions. the appealing color palette also plays an important role as it brings the website a visually good impact and feel.

USER EXPERIENCE(UX):

Experience as the word suggests, refers to how well the user thinks the website is made. the smooth functioning, with little to no glitches. it has to be kept in mind that the UX is designed to be User-Centered. It only focuses on the user and their experience. A UX designer’s typical tasks vary but often include user research, creating personas, designing wireframes and interactive prototypes, and testing designs.

Can we sustain on just the UI or just the UX?

The simple answer is actually yes, but is it worth it? NO. For a good website, both components are equally required. A website on let's say, only a good interface but a not-so-good experience, wouldn't attract users as the functioning of the website wouldn't be pleasing to use. And let, the user experience be fantastic, with very easy functioning, but not visually appealing would also make a good choice. therefore, both with a balance are required in a website.

Are UI and UX only technical terms?

Straight no, the concepts of the UI and the UX are used everywhere, also in product design. there are various examples:

  1. Let's go a few years back and recall, the charging cables earlier were B-type. the Type B cables are the ones, that can be inserted in the phone charging point in only one orientation. even if trying the pin insertion in the opposite sense, the charger wouldn't go in the charging point. on the other hand, the C-Type cables which we have right now can be inserted in both orientations and have no one fixed orientation, thus providing a smooth activity of charging the device.

  2. The next example is the ketchup bottle shown below. the first bottle has a better visually appealing UI but the UX isn't right enough and thus the first design won't fit as the right choice. the other bottle has both a decent UI and a good UX, thus being a better candidate for the design.
